Weightlifting for women Ep.12 – How to do an olympic twist

weight plate, Weightlifting for women Ep.12 - How to do an olympic twist by healthista.com

Healthista’s new Strong Woman series brings you a lesson a day for a fortnight to get you started lifting safely and effectively. Today, coach Nicola Addison, personal trainer of Eqvvs training who trains models Elle Macpherson, Daisy Lowe and Erin O’Connor explains how to do an olympic twist

Healthista’s Strong Woman Series aims to educate aspiring weight trainers how to safely carry out heavy lifting workouts. This week Nicola Addison teaches us how to perform effective compound movements that will improve your strength and help you to burn fat. Today Nicola walks you through the olympic twist, a compound movement that will work a number of muscles including abdominals, shoulders, back, and arms. Thanks to the olympic twist, it’s going to get your heart rate up and help you to burn calories.

  1. To begin the olympic twist, one end of the bar needs to be by your feet. From here you will pick the end of the bar up safely as you would perform a deadlift.

2. Stood up straight the bar is held with straight arms and the bar should be around shoulder height. Feet slightly wider than hip width aparat and knees slightly bent.

3. Slowly bring the bar to one side, twisting your body and keep your eyes on the bar.

4. Using your core strength twist back and with your straight arms dragging the bar over to the over side of your body at a steady pace.
