Will there be a third Kardashian-West baby? Kim Kardashian reveals to her sister that she would like to ‘explore surrogacy’ on reality show Keeping up with the Kardashians.

Kim Kardashian-West had vowed to have no more children after experiencing serious health complications in her last two pregnancies. But it seems that the star is broody again after she reveals on next week’s episode of reality TV show Keeping up with the Kardashians that she would ‘explore’ the option of surrogacy and give North and Saint a younger sibling.

Her first pregnancy was complicated by preeclampsia, a potentially dangerous condition that skyrockets women’s blood pressure during pregnancy. She also suffered from placenta accreta during both births. Placenta accreta causes blood vessels from the placenta to grow into the uterine wall and remain attached. Typically a woman’s placenta is delivered following birth but in Kardashian-West’s case doctors had to remove it in a painful process by hand.

The reality star has also been open about doctor’s recommending she have a hysterectomy as a result of these health complications, ‘they are prepared to have my uterus removed, which is a little scary for me’, the reality star opened up to C Magazine.

Opening up about the delivery of her first child on her website she wrote, ‘My advice to anyone going through this or anything difficult during pregnancy is that all you can do is be hopeful, get the best information out there and just be prepared. The more information you have, the better you know how to handle it!’

Although the processes have been painful, both of the Kardashian-West’s have been open about being keen to expand their family with Kim admitting that shortly after Saint was born her husband was already talking about wanting a third baby but she had refused as the timing was not right.

On another episode of Keeping up with the Kardashians the Armenian beauty had admitted ‘I was so set on my two kids and how happy I was with my life the way that it is, but Kanye has been mentioning it every single day for the past 10 days. I’m like why is he doing this to me?!’

However it seems that Kardashian-West is still set on having a big family. On the Ellen Degeneres show, Kardashian-West had shared that although her pregnancies were tough-going and not something she wanted to repeat in a hurry, she had always wanted to have 6 children.

1 in 6 couples have problems with infertility turning to treatments such as IVF to help them conceive. many women choose to freeze their eggs and now it is even possible for a woman to have a baby on her own. However sometimes it is not safe for a woman to carry a baby and in this instance surrogacy can be a great option for any hopeful mother.

Surrogacy: the facts

The traditional method of surrogacy uses the egg of the surrogate mother and the sperm of the intended father. This can be performed in an IVF clinic, but more often the technique of artificial insemination happens at home. In this situation the baby is biologically related to the intended father and the surrogate mother.

An alternative method of surrogacy known as gestational surrogacy uses the egg of the intended mother combined with the sperm of the intended father or donor sperm. Alternatively donor eggs combined with the sperm of the intended father. In this case an IVF clinic is always required. A baby conceived by this method has no biological connection to the surrogate mother.

But there are risks for parents embarking on surrogacy.

If the surrogate decides to keep the child then she has every right to do so as she is the legal mother. The intended parents have to also consider that the child might be stillborn or handicapped either physically or mentally or both, but these risks are there even if you were to have a child of your own. But if this were to happen and the parents no longer wanted to keep their child then the surrogate mother would be left with a child she had not planned to have.

However, when things go according to plan which they usually do, surrogacy can be an amazing way for parents to conceive. The Infertility Network UK suggests that good communication, trust and friendship is important in a surrogacy arrangement and can reduce the risk of anything going wrong.
