30 weight loss tips in 30 days – #16 Apple cider vinegar

Welcome to the NEW Healthista series featuring 30 days of weight loss tips with Nutritionist Rick Hay. Discover why drinking apple cider vinegar can help you reach your weight loss goals

Today’s tip is about the power of apple cider vinegar to assist weight loss, primarily because of its ability to help balance blood sugar levels. Numerous studies like this one have shown it can reduce blood sugar spikes after eating, which could contribute to cravings and help control appetite.  It may also help fat breakdown. In 2009 a double-blind, placebo-controlled study was done investigating the effects of apple cider vinegar intake on body weight and abdominal fat in 175 obese Japanese subjects.  This was the first study to show that continuous vinegar intake reduced body weight, BMI, and body fat mass.

Rick Hay says: ‘Fermented products for weight loss are all over the news and for good reason. Apple cider vinegar – 1-2 tablespoons mixed it into some warm water with honey added if you wish can help stimulate gut function and may also help you with less bloating, thanks to its fermented nature. Try and take 1-3 tablespoons everyday ideally before mealtimes in a little water to help digestion if it is a little sluggish.’

Available for £2.59 for 500ml, from the Healthista shop
