If you’re suffering from digestive problems, kiwi fruit extract could help. Healthista’s Nutritional Director Rick Hay explains its benefits, in our Trendy Nutrients A – Z series
‘Kiwi fruit extract is particularly beneficial to help digestive function,’ says Healthista’s nutritional director Rick Hay.
‘It’s a great source of fibre; so if you’ve got flatulence or excessive bloating, or are suffering from constipation or diarrhea, you should consider taking kiwi fruit extract.
‘Kiwi fruit extract also helps break down protein in the body.’ A study conducted by Massey University in New Zealand found that kiwi extract containing actinidin significantly enhanced the digestion of most proteins.
‘When your digestive system is working efficiently, this boosts your nutrient absorption. Kiwi fruit extract is also full of nutrients like vitamin C, vitamin K, vitamin E, folate, and potassium.
In just one cup of kiwi, you can get 273 per cent of your daily recommended amount of vitamin C. This helps promote immunity and energy levels, as well as collagen production in the skin.
‘Kiwi fruit extract can be taken as a tablet or capsule. You can also find it in superfood powders.
