We caught up with yoga YouTube star Tara Stiles to talk kitchen gadgets. She’s famed for making yoga accessible for everyone through her video series online and she’s a bit of a guru in the kitchen too with her book Make Your Own Food Rules Diet which Healthista HQ loves.
Tara is founder of Strala Yoga and author of a cookbook which she says should empower you to eat well because it makes you feel good. At Be:Fit London with Reebok, we found out Tara’s essential kitchen gadgets.
Tara’s three essential kitchen gadgets:
1. A sharp knife
I went to a knife store and there was a knife guru at the back and he helped me choose ‘the one’.
2. My Vitamix
Everything goes in here: soups, smoothies (my favourite is spinach, banana and almond milk), salad dressing. I’ll make a lot of salad dressings for the week in here too – I like ginger, lemon, hot sauce all together. I’ll make sauces for pasta too or mix coconut milk, nutritional yeast and different spices for curries. I literally throw it all in and blend it up.
If I’m experimenting with a new dressing recipe, I’ll make a little bit and then try it on a salad and see if it goes well. Next time I’ll make more and store it in a jar in the fridge. My favourite has been like a spicy ranch without the dairy so coconut milk, a bell pepper, red pepper flakes, hot sauce, ginger and a little bit of nutritional yeast.
3. A giant cast iron skillet
I love this and if I’m using the stove, I’ll cook most things on the skillet: veggies, quinoa, stir-fries, scrambled eggs, spinach.
