7 best pumpkin spice beauty must haves

We’ve found some of the best pumpkin spice themed make up must haves to celebrate Halloween and well, gorgeous make-up in general

It’s that time of year again, the time of trick or treating kids, Starbuck’s pumpkin spice lattes (and all 380 calories of them) and well, pumpkins. But believe it or not, pumpkin spice isn’t just for coffee enthusiasts, that’s why we’ve found some gorgeous pumpkin spice themed make up that will have you feeling totally autumnal.

FOR YOUR EYES

First you add the pumpkin…

Make Up Forever, Artist Shadow Metallic in Magma, £13

Make Up Forever, Magma Eyeshadow

It’s not exactly the colour of a pumpkin, but let’s be honest, who wants to be walking round with bright orange eyelids. That’s why we’ve found this little gem – the Make Up Forever Artist Shadow in metallic Magma – the most gorgeous burnt orange shimmery shade that at first glance made me feel all warm inside.

It’s really hard to find an eyeshadow that lasts all day, that doesn’t fade and that doesn’t make your eyelids all sticky. I swapped my normal eyeshadow and wore this for a day and I was extremely surprised by how well it stayed on my eyelids and how much brighter it actually looks once applied – there was a slight fade of colour towards the end of the day but nothing a little touch up couldn’t fix.

The eyeshadow has a ‘gel-powder texture’ which I loved

The eyeshadow has a ‘gel-powder texture’ which I loved as I found that it was super easy to apply with a fine eyeshadow brush and the powder didn’t scatter and make a mess around my eyes.

Pair it with some small winged eyeliner and mascara and not only will your eye colour pop but you’ll be looking like an autumnal Goddess.

Then you add the spice…

Sleek Makeup, Goodnight Sweetheart Limited Edition Eyeshadow Palette, £8.99

Sleek, Goodnight Sweetheart Make Up Palette

If you’re not feeling the pumpkin orange look and would rather settle for a more alluring and seductive eye this Halloween, then this Sleek eyeshadow palette might be able to help you out.

The colour combo of this palette is literally to die for this autumn. Complete with matte shadows and shimmer shadows in colours varying from light pinks and purples to dark velvets and browns, this palette is basically the definition of spice.

Perfect for romantic evening walks and cosy dinners

I tried out three colours on Healthista lifestyle writer Vanessa and layered them to make an amazing pumpkin spice eye. I used Sweet Dreams on her lid, Romance in the crease and Lingerie in the corner and then blended them to create an amazing copper colour – perfect for romantic evening walks and cosy dinners.

The eyeshadow was so easy to spread across the lid and blend, it didn’t clump together like others and stayed on all day.

Normally I would go for much lighter, natural shades of brown on a day to day basis, but these colours definitely provide the perfect autumn/winter feel.

FOR YOUR LIPS

The Pumpkin

Lancome Juicy Shaker Lip Gloss, Apri Cute, £18

Lancome Juicy Shaker Apri Cute, pumpkin spice, by healthista

We know what you’re thinking: because we thought it too – it’s bright, bright, orange. But actually, it’s not all what it seems.

It might feel like you’re applying orange highlighter pen to your lips but in fact, the colour of this gorgeous lip gloss is super natural – that’s because it has a bi-phased formula which pairs three nourishing lip oils – sweet almond oil, omega 3 and cranberry oil with beautiful pigments for plump but natural looking, glossy lips.

I tried this lip gloss out and loved it. It was so smooth and easy to apply because the applicator was more of a sponge than a stick (see above).

It smells (and tastes) absolutely gorgeous and it does look natural but it also has some small undertones of orange – perfect for a subtle Halloween look.

I found out afterwards that the more you shake it, the stronger the orange pigment will be, which is great for those of you who are after a more bolder look.

I hate lip glosses that dry up, go sticky and make your lips looked chapped, but this wasn’t the case with the Juicy Shaker. The oily formula left my lips looking sumptuous and shiny all day.

It’s also a perfect size, making it great to apply on the go or to pop in your gym bag.

The Spice

Autumn season is the perfect excuse to start wearing dark lips or in this case, pumpkin spice lips.

We absolutely fell in love with these lip crayons from Soultree. Parisa (left) can be seen wearing the shade Copper Tint while I tried Purple Haze (right).

Soultree lipsticks are enriched with organic sweet almond oil, wild honey and organic ghee, which makes it rich in moisture and good for your lips.

We loved the fact that the crayon was so pointed as it made applying extremely easy and almost acted as a lipliner.

Then all we had to do was fill in our lips and pucker up. The crayons are really creamy and smooth so filling in wasn’t a challenge at all.

When on the lips, the texture of the lipstick is really matte, which is great if that is the look you’re going for, but it can sometimes leave your lips feeling dry. If you’re worried about that, I would recommend putting a layer of Vaseline or lip balm under the Soultree lipstick to make it a bit less matte.

Saying that though, the lipstick lasted really well – it stayed on throughout my day at work, even through lunch and only needed a touch up before I headed home.

I loved the fact that both lipsticks were really high pigmented yet also had a slight shimmer to them – it makes them great to rock throughout October but it’s also nice to have the glitter for the upcoming Christmas party season.

I would definitely recommend the dark brown shade for girls that have darker skin tones as it really brings out the cheekbones. The purple tones are fantastic for girls who have fairer skin to bring out the eyes.

FOR YOUR CHEEKS

The Pumpkin

Sleek, Blush by 3 in Pumpkin, £9.99

Sleek, pumpkin blusher

The bright red, bright pink and bright orange colours might have you reminiscing your teenage days but trust me, they’re not as bad as they look.

With my extremely pale skin I was wondering how on Earth I was going to pull off these intensly pigmented colours without looking like a crazed clown, but to my surprise, I somehow made it work.

Because it is a blush palette, I decided to use all three colours on my cheekbones and layer them. I started with a small amount of orange and applied to my cheeks, then added some pink and red to add some warmth, before blending it all out in an upwards direction.

The blush went on really smoothly and was so easy to blend, it didn’t stick to my foundation and clump in one area, so in the end I was left with a lovely warm, matte, glow along my cheeks – a great way to do a more subtle contour.

After trying this out, I would definitely recommend this as an autumnal option for fair skinned and pale girls, it brightened my eyes and made me look as though I had a healthy, winter glow.

Jay Manuel, Skin Face Lift Finishing Powder in Gold, £35

jay-manuel-bronze

Blusher isn’t for everyone, which is why we have a bronzing option for this Halloween too.

The Jay Manuel Face Lift Finishing powder can be used as an all over setting powder to help hide fine lines and wrinkles or as a highlighter for those all important areas – cheekbones, jawline and browbones and it is also made with micro-encapsulated, utlra fine crushed gemstone powder.

It is available in two colours, but in my opinion, the gold shade is definitely the way to go this season.

I tried it out as a bronzer rather than a full face powder. Before anything I noticed the built in brush feature, which I loved because it’s just so handy and convenient and keeps everything neat and tidy and in one place.

Next I noticed the colour (only because I unscrewed the bottom where the powder is kept and it went absolutely everywhere, so be careful if you want to do that). The powder is a gorgeous shade of, what I would describe as more rose gold with a slight shimmer so I knew it would work well on my cheekbones.

Getting the powder on the brush was so simple, just a little shake of the product, and then applying was really easy. The brush is super soft and just the right amount of powder was dispensed so I had an even application.

The finished look was subtle and natural but most definitely gave off a warm, cosy, autumnal vibe.

FOR YOUR NAILS

The Pumpkin Spice

OPI, Yank My Doodle Nail Lacquer, £12.50

OPI Yank My Doodle

Last but not least, we can’t forget about our nails. We’ve found this beautiful nail polish which perfectly showcases the both pumpkin and spice, making it a great pick for Halloween.

OPI collaborated with American actress Kerry Washington to create the Yank My Doodle polish – the most perfect mixture of orange and dark browns AKA pumpkin spice.

We applied the polish in our lunch break with no base coat and no top coat and it took just under ten minutes to dry – super handy if you’re inpatient like me or always end up smudging your nails.

The polish was also smooth and easy to apply and lasted up to three days without chipping.

Because we didn’t use top coat it had a stunning matte finish, but if shiny nails are more to your taste then this colour would still look amazing with a top coat.
