FITSPIRATION: Fitness blogger and TV presenter AJ Odudu shares how she stays healthy

FITSPIRATION AJ Odudu shares how she stays healthy, by healthista (3)

AJ Odudu has the body of an athlete, and always smiling. We caught up with the fitness blogger and TV presenter who is always keen to share her healthy habits

You might recognise AJ Odudu, 28 and her thick Blackburn accent from Big Brother’s Bit on the Side in 2013. But fast-forward four years and AJ is splitting her time between fitness blogging, DJ-ing and TV presenting, and knows the strains of squeezing in exercise into a busy schedule.

AJ Odudu is our fitspiration this week, and this is how she stays healthy, by healthista.com
AJ is clearly serious about staying fit no matter how little time there is!

AJ is a natural beauty, with flawless skin and fluttering dark eyelashes, let alone that incredibly lean figure. This week AJ is Healthista’s fitspiration, as not only is she super-hot, but because she shares some useful healthy living hacks on her YouTube and blog like a best friend. Sure, her Instagram with a whopping 25.9k followers is bursting with sexy shots in her latest Adidas kit, high profile events and biceps. But AJ is happy to share what she knows as a trained fitness expert and sports nutritionist for her admiring fans.

Healthista caught up with AJ by the poolside at Haymarket Hotel, about to try a FloatFit class (a water workout) wearing Speedo’s new H20 Activewear, to chat about all things health and fitness.

What exercise do you normally do?

I’m a natural runner, but also love HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) or Boxercise. Body Pump is my favourite class because it incorporates cardio and weights. Exercise is one of those things where you trick yourself into thinking you absolutely love it, but deep down you’re doing it because you know you have to.

How often do you try to exercise?

I run the most, normally doing 10k (AJ has just revealed she is doing the London Marathon for the first time this year). I consistently work out three times a week, and then I sometimes I try and do four or five. It also depends on the length of the workout. I’ll always do three 45 minute classes or 45 minute runs. But sometimes I’ll do a longer one on a Sunday. With exercise and keeping fit it’s just down to consistency. A lot of people I know will work hard for 6 weeks leading up to summer and then sack it off for the rest of the year. But if you keep on top of it, that’s all it really takes.

What is in your gym kit?

My gym bag always includes flip flops. Yes, there are a lot of boutique gyms in London. But if you are willing to be hygienic everywhere, you need flip flops in the changing rooms. I like wearing waterproof makeup in the gym because you know, I could meet my dream guy there! I also wear some lightweight concealer.

What are your beauty essentials?

I never go anywhere without my moisturiser. At the moment I’m using Caudalie which is amazing. It’s really lightweight, and comes in a little tube. I love product from The Body Shop, especially the oils and hand creams. I use an oil from Kiehl’s, Daily Reviving Concentrate, which is great for giving a nice glow.

What is your go-to smoothie?

I always tend to have something like spinach, spirulina, because its high in iron, kiwi, lettuce, water and a banana to thicken it up.

Do you have a ‘cheat meal’?

I won’t deny myself. Cake is good for you soul, and exercise is good for your body and mind

No, I never have cheat meals or cheat day…. I just have treats! I don’t think any food is bad. The way I see it, you could become obese by eating pizzas, and you can become obese by eating avocados. You could over eat anything, so it’s important to keep everything in moderation.

What to you tend to cook at home?

Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day, so I always go big on that. I’ll have avocado two poached eggs, toast, red pepper and sometimes bacon for the Full Monty. For dinner I’ll have grilled chicken with paprika, potatoes, spinach and broccoli. Fish is really easy; salmon with a bit of pepper and lemon, just stick it in the oven and its done. When I go out I’ll have red meat like steak, just because I don’t have it a lot at home. In the evening I have dessert, not every day, but I won’t deny myself if I feel like it. Inspirations now or growing up?

I’ve got seven siblings, and my four older brothers and a big sister always had trophies from school. When I was growing up they were my inspiration, I just wanted to run as fast as them. I never got a medal or trophy… however now that I’m older I really look to athletes like Jessica Ennis and Dina Asher-Smith.
