WE LOVE: TOWIE’s Ferne McCann’s new tanning range – Healthista team’s real-life results and our favourites in the range

Ferne McCann, main post image, tan review by healthista

Former The Only Way is Essex star Ferne McCann has just released a new fake tanning range and we were lucky enough to get our mitts on it

The gorgeous brunette has created her first faux tanning brand for busy women that are after glowing skin. Having a natural tan can be one of the biggest confidence boosters for a girl and we all know a sun-kissed bod can make you feel and look ten times more healthier.

Whether you’re working nine til five, studying hard, or heading on a girls’ holiday, Ferne’s tan can provide you with a bright, bronzed and natural look that would have anyone thinking you’ve just stepped off the plane.

From lotions to mousses, to the ultimate gradual and express tan, Ferne’s got it all covered. All the tans are enriched with Vitamin E (to fight signs of ageing) and argan oil (to prevent the appearance of stretch marks), so that you’re left feeling smooth and silky.

And it gets better – Ferne’s range has been specifically designed so that there is no horrible, biscuit-y fake tan smell. Instead, you can leave the house smelling like English pears and peony flowers.

So if, like myself, you’re often referred to as Casper the ghost, you’ve come to the right place. We put Ferne’s fake tans to the test and were more than impressed with our results.

THE MOUSSE

Ferne McCann Bronzing Mousse

Mousse’s are probably the easiest method of fake tanning and are great for applying before bed and washing off in the morning. Ferne’s created two bronzing mousses – natural glow and deep glow – and no matter how many layers you apply, there is no risk of darker patches, meaning you will be left streak free.

To get your beautifully bronzed bod all you have to do is leave your preferred mousse on for eight hours before washing off.

Lorna final tan, tan review, by healthista.I really like the packaging of this product as it’s simplistic but sophisticated, and as it is white with silver pretty patterns it gives the mousse a light and airy feel before you even take the lid off the bottle.

Application is easy so long as (like Ferne says on the packaging) you prepare to bend in all sorts of strange positions. I applied Ferne’s mousse with a tanning mitt in circular motions.

The good thing about this tan is that the foam goes onto your skin the same colour as it comes out of the bottle (quite a noticeable brown), so if you’re pale like me then you’ll have no trouble seeing where you have applied the tan or noticing areas that may need a touch up. It also dried pretty quickly (when I had finished coating both legs with tan, the first one was dry) so I could put clothes on minutes after application.

When I woke and headed for the shower, the tan looked an amazing deep, natural brown colour

The product recommends that you leave the tan on for 8 hours so I decided to put it on just before bed and slept in it.

When I woke and headed for the shower, the tan looked an amazing deep, natural brown colour – so perhaps if you want a tan for a special occasion one night I suggest putting it on a few hours before you head out for the night. In the shower I used a small amount of body wash on my body. A lot of colour ran off in a very orangey/brown shade so I was worried it was all washing away with the water, but when I dried I had a lovely natural-looking glow.

Like Ferne, I would recommend exfoliating before application as this colour seems to last for a good few days. You don’t want it to stick to certain areas more than others after you’ve had your daily wash now do you?

I’d definitely suggest this product to someone with paler skin like me as it gave me an all over natural-looking, streak-free tan, for at least four days that made me look a lot healthier with a sun-kissed finish. I have done two applications now and the bottle still feels full which proves that a little bit goes a long way so it is definitely worth every penny.

The express tan comes in both lotion and mousse and is perfect for busy bodies who have no time to waste.

It’s fast developing formula that claims it can give you a natural to deep glow in just one to four hours, depending on how bronzed you want to be. One hour will give you a light touch of colour, two hours will achieve a slightly deeper sun-kissed glow, three hours will develop to a medium-deep tan and four hours will give you the ultimate deep, bronzed look.

All you need to do is apply and wash off at your desired time – perfect if you need a quick fix of colour before heading out.

Tester says:

‘I’ve never come across an Express Tan before so I was curious to try it out and see the results. But first things first, I love the packaging of this product, especially the patterns and metallic colours, it’s so pretty and luxurious.

I love the way you can control the depth of the colour by choosing when to wash it off.

I applied the tan when I came home from work and as I am incredibly pale, I wanted to achieve the darkest look possible. After exfoliating every inch of my body, I applied the mousse (which was so light and fluffy) with a mitt and it went on smoothly leaving no streaks. One thing I did notice when applying was that there was no horrible fake tan smell at all, instead it smelt fresh and flowery. I left the tan on for just over four hours and then the fake tan smell started to creep it’s way in, so I went for a shower.

Before and after of the express mousse tan

One thing about fake tans that I always worry about is the colour running off and washing away when I shower. With Ferne’s Express Mousse only a small amount ran off so I still had a lovely bronzed tan afterwards.

The overall result was just what I wanted, I was bronzed to perfection, not too dark and not too light and I didn’t have any streaks,

The overall result was just what I wanted, I was bronzed to perfection, not too dark and not too light and I didn’t have any streaks, apart from the odd toes and wrists (poor exfoliating on my behalf). I love the way you can control the depth of the colour by choosing when to wash it off.

The final result of the express tan

I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who needs a quick tan before heading on a night out, to the gym or just anywhere in general. The speediness of the tan is so convenient for busy ladies.
